What is it about a person's expression, particularly in the eyes, that can be at once mysterious, kind, angry, inviting, or any one of hundreds of emotions? That is what the art of portraiture is all about.
I believe the most memorable portraits do not depend on any particular facial expression, or emotion. Instead, its more of what I call the "energy" communicated between the subject and the camera, and it can be felt by the viewer looking at the portrait.
Almost all the portraits shown here were done in a "casual" or documentary style. Most of them were snapshots of people doing something else, and I photographed them with very little interruption of their activity. This type of photography can give us a glimpse of a person "as they are" without the posing and artificiality of a "set up" portrait. I also do enjoy doing commissioned portraits, and I will use the natural setting and lighting of a person's environment to achieve as much as possible the feel of a documentary portrait.

I have also included in this website some examples of my other types of photographs: landscapes, documentary, and abstracts. Prints may be purchased. Contact me about sizes, type of print paper, and pricing.
New! I have a book of photographs: a sampling of 40 years of photography. Check it out.
